چکیده

We explore the existence of solitons in a nonlinear, dispersive, amplifying medium based on a model that makes neither the parabolic-gain approximation nor the rate-equation approximation. Without these approximations, the Maxwell-Bloch equations no longer reduce to a Ginzburg-Landau equation and do not appear to have analytic soliton solutions. We use numerical simulations to show that solitary waves can exist provided there is enough broadband loss such that the net gain is negative far away from the gain peak. In general, such solitons are chirped and the degree of chirp as well as the soliton width depend on the

Self-similar propagation of parabolic pulses in normal-dispersion fiber amplifiers

Pulse propagation in high-gain optical fiber amplifiers with normal group-velocity dispersion has been studied by self-similarity analysis of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with gain. For an amplifier with a constant distributed gain, an exact asymptotic solution has been found that corresponds to a linearly chirped parabolic pulse that propagates self-similarly in the amplifier, subject to...

A Proposal for a New Method of Modeling of the Quantum Dot Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers

With the advancement of nanoscale semiconductor technology, semiconductor optical amplifiers are used to amplify and process all-optical signals. Inthis paper, with the aim of calculating the gain of quantum dot semiconductor opticalamplifier (QD-SOA), two groups of rate equations and the optical signal propagatingequation are used in the active layer of the device. For t...

Impact of Fourth-Order Dispersion Coefficient on the Gain Spectrum and the Saturation Behavior of One-Pump Fiber Optical Parametric Amplifiers

In this paper, the gain spectrum and the saturation behavior of one-pump fiber optical parametric amplifiers (1-P FOPAs) are investigated by taking into account the fourth-order dispersion coefficient b4 in the analysis. The results show that it is necessary to consider b4 in the analysis when the wavelength difference between the signal and pump waves is large enough and/or whenever the pump w...

Self-similar propagation and amplification of parabolic pulses in optical fibers.

Ultrashort pulse propagation in high gain optical fiber amplifiers with normal dispersion is studied by self-similarity analysis of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with gain. An exact asymptotic solution is found, corresponding to a linearly chirped parabolic pulse which propagates self-similarly subject to simple scaling rules. The solution has been confirmed by numerical simulations and ex...

Impact of Input Pump Profile on the Gain Spectrum and the Saturation Behavior of One-Pump Fiber Optical Parametric Amplifiers

In this article, the impact of input pump profile on the gain spectrum as well as the saturation behavior of one-pump fiber optical parametric amplifiers (FOPAs) is investigated. Since in practical circumstances, pump sources used for FOPAs have Lorentz-Gaussian profile instead of Gaussian, a more realistic case is considered for simulating FOPAs in this article. The results of simulations for ...
